What this result means

The result estimates how much money would be needed in the ending month to buy the same typical basket of consumer goods and services as the original amount bought in the starting month.

How the calculation works

The calculator multiplies the amount by the ending month's CPI-U and divides it by the starting month's CPI-U. CPI-U is the U.S. city average for all items and is not seasonally adjusted.
